 In our effort to contribute to a greener environment, Star Ready-Mix is proud to announce that we are BCA-certified to manufacture and supply Eco-concrete.


Eco-concrete uses recycled washed copper slag material and recycled granite to replace up to 50% of the natural aggregates used in concrete production. Copper slag is a by-product of sandblasting at shipyards and recycled granite is from demolition waste

CARBON CURE

 

CarbonCure is a technology developed to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete production by sequestering carbon dioxide (CO2) into the concrete during the mixing process. Here's how it works:


  1. CO2 Injection: CarbonCure technology involves injecting captured CO2 gas into the concrete mix during batching. The CO2 reacts with calcium ions released from cement hydration to form calcium carbonate (CaCO3), which becomes permanently embedded within the concrete matrix.
  2. Mineralization: The CO2 injection triggers a chemical reaction known as carbonation or mineralization, where the CO2 is converted into a stable mineral form (calcium carbonate) within the concrete. This process effectively sequesters the CO2, preventing it from being released into the atmosphere.
  3. Strength and Performance: The carbonation process does not compromise the strength or performance of the concrete. In fact, studies have shown that CarbonCure concrete can achieve comparable or even superior compressive strength compared to traditional concrete mixes.
  4. Greenhouse Gas Reduction: By utilizing captured CO2 as a feedstock for concrete production, CarbonCure helps reduce the carbon footprint of concrete manufacturing. It allows concrete producers to lower their emissions and contribute to greenhouse gas mitigation efforts.
  5. LEED and Sustainability: Concrete produced with CarbonCure technology may contribute to earning points toward green building certifications such as LEED, as it aligns with sustainability goals by reducing carbon emissions and promoting the use of recycled materials.
